My name is Jordan Blackhurst and this is my cause.
Thanks to all of my supporters who helped raise over $4,600 for the Canadian Diabetes Association!
On November 9, 2011, I dedicated my 32nd birthday to my sister Sam, a one-of-a-kind person who has always gone above and beyond for me. I wanted to give something back to her in the best way I knew how, by helping in the fight to cure diabetes.
Sam was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes on March 18, 2004, at the age of 29.
Type 1 diabetes, formerly known as Juvenile diabetes, primarily presents itself in young people under the age of 30. The pancreas no longer works to produce insulin, a vital hormone. Since 2005, Sam has been using an insulin pump to deliver insulin to her body. I remember how difficult it was to watch her go through such a major life change, but like everything else she does, Sam pulled through with her amazing positive attitude and a smile. Last year, nearly 2,000,000 people in Canada and the United States were diagnosed with diabetes. We’ve come a long way in the research but still have not found a cure.
On Saturday, November 12th, I ran 61.5 km (38.4 mi) across Montreal to raise over $4,600
for the Canadian Diabetes Association. I invite you to sponsor me even though we've passed our goal for 2011, because I'll be back at it again next year!
